Description |
Sketch of original design of National Building Museum Corner Market by Raymond Kaskey. Features men holding up an urn. |
Context |
The markers sitting at the four corners of the National Building Museum site were originally intended as bollards to block access to F Street in front of the building. When plans to close the street did not come to pass, the sculptures were sited instead at the corners. Each marker depicts a set of six laborers, symbolizing the building trades whose study makes up the Museum's mission. The figures hold up a plumb bob, the ancient tool that helps builders find true vertical. |
