Context |
The Charleston flower ladies were women, many of them descendants of formerly enslaved people, who sold wild herbs, flowers, and elixirs in downtown Charleston starting in the late 19th century, contributing to the city's economy and heritage. Their entrepreneurial spirit and cultural contributions were later celebrated through art. |
