Context |
Dutch Boy was a brand of paint produced by the National Lead Company that featured a cartoon character of a Dutch Boy in its advertising campaigns, particularly for lead-based paint. While the Dutch Boy image was used to promote lead-based paints, these paints have been linked to lead poisoning. The National Lead Company faced scrutiny and lawsuits for its marketing of lead paint, despite the well-documented health risks of lead exposure. In the 1970s, the U.S. government banned the use of lead-based paint in residential applications, and the National Lead Company ultimately transitioned to manufacturing lead-free paint under the Dutch Boy brand. |
