Potomac Terra Cotta Company |
Notes |
Angus Lamond, a Scottish immigrant who arrived in the United States at the age of 25, established the Potomac Terra Cotta Company in the latter half of the 19th century. The business became a prominent fixture on the eastern side of the newly laid Baltimore and Ohio train tracks, near what are now Van Buren Street, Underwood Street, and Chillum Place. Its large ovens produced clay tiles and were a notable industrial presence in the area. Lamond’s name remains linked to this early manufacturing enterprise, which contributed to the growth of industry in this part of the city. |
